The Royal trek is one of the well known and admired short trekking destinations in the Annapurna region that have been categorized as a cultural trekking route. The Royal Trek is named after Prince Charles who explored this region in the 1980s with his ninety people entourage.  

The trek goes through several traditional villages inhabited by Gurung people; one of the major ethnic groups in Nepal. The trek follows the foothills of the Annapurna range which offers a panoramic view of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. 

This is also known as the cultural trek, the travelers who want to explore the diverse culture and tradition, this trek will be more worth it because the trek provides different experiences letting you stay with traditional Nepali families in their home which is a great opportunity to experience local customs, lifestyles, and religions that have remained unchanged for hundreds of years.

Beginning of the Royal trek is from Bijayapur, after a short drive from Lake City, the Whole trek will be of 4 days. The maximum altitude of the whole trekking is 1730m at Syaklung so there will no altitude sickness at all. This trek is suitable for all, The beginners and the elderly people also can go for this trek. 

Finally, the trek ends at another popular Lake, Begnas Tal which is about an hour’s drive from Pokhara.

Royal Trek Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu airport and you will be transferred to the hotel by one of our representatives. Welcome dinner at one of the traditional Nepali restaurants in Kathmandu.
Overnight: Hotel
Elevation: 1334m.

Day 02: Visit Swoyambunath and Patan: start our tour visiting Swoyambunath, a magnificent Buddhist stupa situated at the high hill of Kathmandu valley followed by a visit of Patan, a true open air museum with its pagodas, temples, and monasteries.

Day 03: Drive Kathmandu to Pokhara (820m): a scenic drive for about 6 hours to Pokhara. You can enjoy your afternoon exploring the lake city.

Driving time: 6 hours
Difference in Elevation: -514m.

Day 04: Drive Pokhara to Bijayapur and trek to Kalikasthan (1370m): start our adventure with a short drive to Bijayapur then we begin our trek to Kalikasthan. It is fairly easy to start through the paddy fields. Once we cross a small stream/river, the trail ascends all the way to Kalikasthan. We explore Kalikasthan and surroundings in the afternoon/evening.

Difference in Elevation: + 550m.

Day 05: Trek Kalikasthan to Syaklung (1730m): as we continue our trek, we follow a ridge enjoying the magnificent view of the Annapurna mountain range. It is about 6 hours trek goes through several small settlements and rhododendron forests.
Overnight: Lodge / Local House
Walking time: 6 hours
Difference in Elevation: + 360m

Day 06: Trek Syaklung to Chisapani (1550m): continuing our trek, we go through the Gurung (one of the major ethnic groups) villages and rhododendron forests. We descend a few hundred meters through the forest and field followed by a climb all the way to Chisapani. The reward of the day will be a panoramic view of the Himalayas including Annapurna and Dhaulagiri.

Day 07: Trek Chisapani to Begnas Tal and drive to Pokhara (820m): on our final day of the trek, we walk down to Rupa Tal followed by a climb to Sundare danda and short descend to Begnas Tal. We explore Begnas Tal and surroundings then drive back to Pokhara.

Day 08: Flight Pokhara - Kathmandu (1334m): a scenic flight back to Kathmandu.
Overnight: Hotel
Flight time: 30 minutes

Day 10: Transfer to the airport and departure.

Weather Report For Royal Trek

Nepal Climate

From the eternal snow of the high peaks to the extensive tropical lowlands, Nepal has a wide variety of climates.

Spring: March to late May: In this season, Kathmandu is in full bloom, lots of different types of flowers can be seen at this time of the year. Temperature is mild, end of the cold winter and approaching warm and hot summer. Temperatures vary between 10 ° C to 28 ° C but can rise up to 30 ° C. Between 2000 and 3000m, temperature rarely drop below 0 ° C. However, few frosts or snowfalls are possible in March above 4000 m.

The summer/monsoon period: It interrupts the majority of trekking from late June to late August. Some of the trekking regions "trans-Himalayan", Dolpo and Mustang, however, remain protected from monsoon prevailing rest of the country. They are the only channels available in Nepal in the summer.

Autumn: mid September – mid December - Perfect temperature and weather for trekking. Brings cooler days, but clear skies. Above 3000 m altitude, temperatures can drop to -10 ° C at night.

In winter: mid-December - mid-February - Nights are generally cold, dry climate, Above 3000m, temperature drop down to 0 ° C to - 15 ° C at night, the days are often sunny.
